On Saturday June 18, Alliance Rubber had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a sponsor for the 4th Annual Tinkerfest at the Mid America Science Museum here in Hot Springs. This was our second year participating and we had so much fun yet again!
Tinkerfest focuses on the importance of tinkering; a learning theory that hands-on learning can be more beneficial than the end product itself. For example, the process of taking apart and rebuilding something allows one to see how the item works and the importance of each part. In the end, the tinkerer will have a better understanding of why that thing – and things similar to it – work.
Dozens of tinkering stations were set up throughout the museum with activities for the children and Alliance got to be everyone’s first stop. At the beginning of the day, we started with a small basic rubber band ball. We had all the kids add bands to the ball and make sure to stop by before they left to see how big it had grown. By the end of the day, we had a rubber band ball the size of a soccer ball! Kids and parents alike had fun contributing to the rubber band ball, checking out our rubber band dress and learning about Alliance’s products and local impact. We can’t wait to come back next year!
