Facilities maintenance supplies may not be at the top of the list for facilities managers, but they are a vital element to keeping things running smoothly. Facilities Managers have to focus on the efficient maintenance of an organization’s building and equipment as well as the safety, functionality and comfort in the environment. It’s a pretty hefty responsibility. On top of that, there is the crucial need to stay within budget. As you can imagine, this requires a great deal of research, planning, and negotiation.
As mentioned above, one very important responsibility of a Facilities Manager is to anticipate future inventory needs. Having facilities maintenance supplies available when they’re needed is critical. These supplies might include anything from lubricant to maintain the performance of heavy machinery to industrial sized trash bins and liners to keep the floor in the receiving department clear of debris.
When checking the inventory, don’t forget to check for rubber bands! Rubber bands function much in the same way to the maintenance department as a paper clip does to the accounting department. Rubber Bands are perfect for small tasks such as bundling maintenance manuals or holding can liners tightly in place, but they’re also great for much larger tasks like securing items on pallets for movement within a warehouse. And did we mention, they’re reusable?! They’re a versatile tool that’s budget-friendly and incredibly useful across all departments.
It’s always better to be over-prepared, so be sure that your supply closet is always full of rubber bands in every shape and size!
