Summer is finally here, and everyone’s been looking forward to getting back to the “new norm.” For some of us, that means taking a long-awaited trip to the beach, lake, or river! Before you head out, plan to include rubber bands on your packing list.
First things first, you have to pack your bag (including any outdoor gear). Not everyone is a master at packing and it usually takes a few tries to get it right. Most agree that rolling your clothes can help you fit more into a smaller space. To keep everything snug and secure, wrap rubber bands around your rolled items. This will keep everything neat but will also make it much easier to situate everything perfectly. This is especially helpful if you need to keep items readily accessible during your travels.
Another reason to keep rubber bands on hand during your trip is that they’re the easiest and most economical way to secure and organize your outdoor gear.
Think about this: you’re preparing your day bag for the beach which includes beach towels, chairs, a cooler with drinks and snacks, and most likely a hat and sunglasses. What if you arrive at the beach and there’s a hefty breeze that day (as there usually is)? You don’t want to spend the day fighting the seagulls AND your gear. Rubber bands are the solution!
Use rubber bands to:
Secure towels to chairs
Tightly wrap snacks to deter seagulls and keep sand out
Secure smaller items like hats and sunglasses to your chair
The same applies to any trip to the great outdoors! Rubber bands are great for securing gear to boats or canoes and for keeping snacks fresh and safe from pests on camping trips.
So, before you head out make sure that you have a nice supply of rubber bands on hand. They’re much less expensive than bungee cords or clamps, and you just might find that they’re much more effective.
