From PizzaNet to #ProjectTakeout

It’s official – the world is still in love with Takeout and Food Delivery Services in 2021. In fact, 60% of all restaurants reported that offering takeout led to increased revenue. That’s great news considering that more than 73,000 restaurants listed on Yelp were forced to close permanently due to the pandemic. Takeout is the only way that many small local restaurant owners were able to survive.

“Invest in the future of independent restaurants. It’s your civic duty. Order takeout, post a photo of your order on social media with #ProjectTakeout and tag the restaurant.”

It’s hard to imagine this now, but until 1994, online ordering services didn’t even exist! Did you know that the first online ordering service (PizzaNet) was introduced by Pizza Hut? The first-ever online order was a large pepperoni, mushroom, and extra cheese pizza.  That’s right, the first-ever online order. Before you could buy books, clothing, or ANYTHING online – you could order pizza.

For quite some time, though, (if you wanted to order food online) pizza was the only option. Those were simpler times when delivery drivers only had to worry about one type of box in a few different sizes. Then, throw in some packets of parmesan cheese and red peppers and the delivery was complete. Then, all they had to do was deliver it on time, and while it was still hot.
Today, with the introduction of third-party delivery services (like GrubHub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Postmates, and Amazon) food delivery is much more complicated. Four-course meals (including appetizers, soups, salads, drinks, and desserts) are the norm. To top that, if an order goes wrong, four in five people point blame at the restaurants instead of the delivery service.
Check out these WONDERFULLY inexpensive and INCREDIBLY efficient solutions that will speed up the order process and ensure that food arrives in the best condition possible:
