Hot Springs, Arkansas August 28, 2013 The largest rubber band producer in the United States, Alliance Rubber Company of Hot Springs, is a nominee in Martha Stewart’s Second Annual American Made competition.
A nod to Stewart’s start as the owner of a small catering business, the contest is designed to honor companies across the country that are based out of and manufacture products in the United States.
Alliance Rubber Company, which proudly marks each package “Made in the USA,” was founded in Alliance, Ohio, in 1923, but the operation has called Hot Springs home since 1944.
“It was nearly a century ago when my dad first cut bands from a few Goodyear inner tubes,” said Alliance Rubber Company President Bonnie Swayze. “We are still very committed to manufacturing and packaging our products within the U.S. – and specifically Arkansas today. We would be honored to represent the state as an American Made Award winner.”
Ten winners will be chosen by the editors of “Martha Stewart Living,” while an online vote, which starts today, determines “Audience Choice” awards from each of six categories, including Craft, Design, Food, Garden, Style and Tech. Alliance is a nominee in the Craft category, which features a range of products from candles to pottery to eco-friendly clothing.
Once category finalists are chosen, an online audience will also select a grand prize winner.
The public can vote for Alliance Rubber Company by visiting marthastewart.com/americanmade/nominee/80990. Voting for category winners concludes Friday, Sept. 13 with grand prize winner selection starting Tuesday, Sept. 17 and running through Sunday, Sept. 22.
Finalists will receive an “American Made” gift basket and be featured on Martha Stewart’s site and on Sirius radio. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000 for his/her business, a trip for two to New York City to attend the American Made Workshop in October and a feature on marthastewart.com.
Last year’s winning business was Bee Man Candle Company of Canastota, N.Y.
