The creator of the Rainbow Loom, Choon Ng, is from Malaysia but has lived in the U.S. since 1991 and loves it! His story in many ways represents the “American Dream” – working hard and being innovative led to his success.
Despite a desire to manufacture his invention in the country he loves, Choon came to the realization that America is “not a manufacturing country anymore.” Costs were so high to keep manufacturing in the U.S. that he made the difficult decision to manufacture the looms in China.
When Choon developed two follow-up items to Rainbow Loom, he and his brother made sure both were made in America. A plastic carrying case for Rainbow Loom accessories is made in Ohio. A one-piece Wonder Loom, marketed through Walmart, is made in New York. Choon got them made in the U.S. because they didn’t require a supply chain.
And even the Wonder Loom bands, which can also be found at Walmart, are made in America – right here at Alliance Rubber Company in Hot Springs, Ark. We’re pretty proud to be a part of this project.

Choon’s story sheds light on some real hurdles we have to overcome with the current manufacturing scene in the United States. You can make a difference. Let’s band together and pledge to spend just one dollar a day on American-made products. Pledge here: https://bit.ly/19U2ea2
