How Breaking a Habit Can be a “Snap”

Everyone has a habit that is unique to him or her. It can be something little like biting your nails or scratching your nose. For Robert Barone from the TV sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, it was touching his food to his chin before each bite.


Some habits, however, can be harmful to your health or self-image and need to be stopped. Many people try to cut bad habits, such as cursing, smoking or nail biting, but they can be difficult to break. Cutting a bad habit requires effort and can take time. However, the crafty use of a rubber band can help speed up the process.

Try wrapping a rubber band around your wrist, as pictured below.


Next time you catch yourself cursing, biting your nails or partaking in the bad habit you’re trying to kick, lift the rubber band and make it snap against your wrist. Soon you will find yourself not wanting to experience that sting and will cease your bad habit.
